The
opening points in the first 5 minutes were scored by Avon's winger
& was the kick up the ass we needed to switch on. We played
the rest of the match with determination & guts.
Early
on in the game it was obvious we were no match for Avon's backs,
who dazzled us with their agility, speed & handling skills.
Our backs fought back bravely with Naz & the rest of the girls
putting in some great tackles & changes of direction in attack.
However, it was a different story in the forwards.

Right
from the first scrum we proved we were the stronger pack, in fact
only one scrum in the whole match saw us being pushed back. Our
line outs also went well, but what stood out most was our rucking.
We know from our previous match against Supermarines that we needed
to raise the standard. Every ruck we hit was low & hard &
in numbers, Avon's forwards were kept on the back foot for 80% of
the match.

Unfortunately
for us the 20% of the possession they got they quickly got out to
their backs & scored some great tries. Overall the match was
spent by us blowing Avon away up front, but Avon punishing every
mistake we made by getting it out to their backs. Our determination
paid off in the second half with us going over the line with a push
over try by Annie Brennan.
We
kept the pressure up & pinned Avon in their 22 & managed
to force them into making further mistakes, one of which was Avon's
fly half attempting to clear a kick which fortunately for us went
straight to the hands of our right winger Gabby, who showed no mercy
& scored our second try.
Through
our dominance in the forwards we created two more opportunities
to score from push over scrums, but due to handling era's &
lack of communication we were unable to actually score. All in all
a very enjoyable match which the score didn't really reflect the
game. A massive well done to our girls who played with pride &
passion & didn't give up.

We
know Avon's backs are very talented, but next time we come up against
them we'll have learnt from this experience & will give them
a run for their money.
Special
well done's go to:
Lucy our hooker for stealing most of Avon's balls in the scrums
Emma
our no 8 for strong running, tackling & general spoiling of
Avon's play
LJ
our full back ( who's currently playing out of position ) for putting
in some fantastic tackles, great running angles & general awareness
on the pitch

Lastly, but certainly not least well done to our inexperienced but
very talented wingers - Emily, Sarah & Gabby, who gave 100 %
effort & have improved greatly with every game.
Well
done to everyone of you on that pitch, without you all we wouldn't
have played as well as we did.
