St Mary's Old Boys 15 - Paignton 7

After a slightly delayed kick off Mary’s started the match enthusiastically, keen to win after the previous 2 weeks league defeats to Avon and Supermarines. After a few minutes defending we camped out in Paigntons half and at around the 15 minute mark we were rewarded by an excellent chip and chase by LJ and Gabi which resulted in Gabi touching down. Not long afterwards our second try of the day came from an excellent catch and drive lineout with Captain Tracey Garrett taking a crash ball off the back and fighting through all the way to the try line.

After half time and a few changes (thanks to the excellent number of committed and skilled players we have this season!) we settled in to our poorest period of play and were punished when we were too slow to get back in defense and let through a try from Paigntons speedy No.15 which she then converted. This kicked us into action and we fought back with some excellent play, which finally resulted in Gabi breaking through again to score.

Throughout the match the forwards did an excellent job holding Paigntons strong scrummages, and making good ground with lineout drives and crash balls while the backs came together for some brilliant shows of strong running and quick thinking rugby.

A special mention goes to Sammy who came on in the second half and did an excellent job playing in her first game of senior womens rugby – well done! Also to Gabi – man of the match!
