More sad news, Helen Buckley (H, Homer) has sadly passed away after a long illness.

The following is a tribute from the Ladies' team:
Helen 'Homer’ Buckley - a name synonymous with St. Mary's Old Boys Ladies. Anyone who has played for the ladies side regardless of age or era would have definitely crossed paths with Homer. A force to be reckoned with on and off the pitch.

Being a front row player was a metaphor for her life, always in the thick of it, a grafter, the cornerstone of her team, her supporting arms grabbing hold of anyone who was lost and alone. She not only led the team through her years as captain but also long after - keeping in touch with the girls past and present and organizing oldies tours.

Homer (H) battled her cancer as she did any game; head on and 100%, but sadly, this time she didn’t get the result we were all hoping for. Her passion for rugby and her zest for life live on in the many ladies that wear a green and black shirt. Homer (H) will be forever remembered for her ‘Homer’ stories, passion for life, rugby, family and friends xx.

A tribute from Chair Steve Cooke on behalf of the club:
Homer was a pathfinder for women’s rugby at St Mary's - she was captain for 3 seasons on the trot from 1999 through to 2002, but much more than this she was the heart and soul of the Ladies team in those early days, when the sport was starting to become established across the city and beyond. Our whole club is deeply saddened by her loss and our heartfelt condolences go to her family, friends and all who have represented SMOBL. We will be honouring her memory when we are able to gather together and celebrate her contribution.

On a personal note, I can recall the times when she was captain and, unable to go out as she had a young baby, the Irvings, Bob and Chris, and me and my wife used to go around to her house with drinks to keep her company. Sad news indeed. Ken Squire.
