Saints' try count keeps on mounting

Evidence of a considerable improvement over last season continues to mount as Saints eased past stiff opposition. With several unforced changes from the team that beat Gordon League 52-3 last week, Saints still had more than enough firepower to overcome a spirited Old Colstonians. Saints got off to their usual poor start for the fourth consecutive time this season. Putting Saints under pressure straight from the kick off, Old C's quickly created an overlap on the right, enabling their wing to go over for an unconverted try. Playing up the slope,it took some time for Saints to get decent possession, but the writing was on the wall as they started to punch holes up the middle. These forays resulted in penalties and Saints ground out a 5-6 lead before the 20 minute mark. Eventually the pressure told and Saints got their first try.
The second half saw Saints turn the screw and tries came at regular intervals. Old C's were still making us defend and pressed our line on several occasions. However, our defence has improved lately and we managed to clear our line without conceding further scores. Saints looked the fitter in the last quarter, a testimony to the numbers up training and the training regime.

Next week it's a joint Gloucester Cup/League match against league leaders Hucclecote (away). How well we do will give us a good idea as to how far we have progressed this season.
