Saints bag another 5 points as they survive a strong fightback. Brooker pries open Whitehall defence.

Saint Mary's 36 Whitehall 21

Saints dominated the first half with the wind and slope at their backs. Whitehall rarely threatened and Saints racked up 3 converted tries, all points scored by man of the match, Dan Brooker. Saints looked good value for their lead as backs and forwards combined well in a fast flowing game. HT Saints 21 Whitehall 0.

It was a different tale in the second half, as Whitehall found their feet and applied pressure for long periods. The referee produced 3 yellow cards in quick succession,1 against Whitehall and 2 against Saints. Whitehall exploited the extra man well and started to peg back the scoreline. At one stage in the match it was 24-21 to Saints and it looked like anyone could win as the large Whitehall support found their voices. However, in the last 15 minutes Matt O'Keefe broke away down the left and scored a vital bonus point try. Saints added another fine try by 17 year-old Adam Wilkins in the last 5 minutes to ensure the win.

This game was a good yardstick to measure ourselves against. Whitehall are a strong side and made Saints work very hard after half time to secure the win.The next league game is against top of the table Stroud . All in all a tough run for Saints which will test us fully.

Also note additional Cup games at home on November 8th against Cheltenham Saracens - the semi final of the Glos. Cup (despite Saints not having won a game yet in this competition - innit odd?) and on Wednesday November 12th against Bishopston in the Combination Bowl Competition. K.O at 7p.m.
